Costa Rica has two seasons. Summer, the dry season, runs from late November to May. Skies are generally clear during this time although it can be windy. The winter season or rainy season begins in May with a two-week break in July, then starts in earnest in August and continues until mid to late-November. Although it rains nearly every afternoon, the mornings are usually hot and sunny. Temperatures vary depending on the location and altitude with beach temperatures ranging from 28 to 38 degrees Celsius or 82 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The mountain and San José regions tend to be considerably cooler.
